The Swedish enactment with regard to application and tuition fees at universities and university colleges (SFS 2010:543) includes transitional rules relating to exceptions from the tuition fees that otherwise are to be paid in connection with studies initiated after 31 July 2011. Item 2 of the transitional rules indicates that a student liable to pay tuition fees my complete a course or degree programme without paying the fees if the course or degree programme was initiated prior to 1 July 2011. For student not completed by 31 December 2018, however, tuition fees shall be paid for the relevant period following that date.
Admission to the University’s two-year master’s programmes has been carried out for studies beginning in autumn semesters, most recently for studies beginning in the autumn semester of 2010. Item 2 of the transitional rules is accordingly to be interpreted as entailing that a student who begins a master’s programme prior to 1 July 2011 and who has not completeted his or her studies by 31 July 2011 can, without any special assessment process and without having to pay any tuition fee, subsequently be admitted to and registered for courses corresponding to up to 60 credits in order to complete his or her studies within the programme and without having to pay tuition fee.
Where special grounds necessitate registration for courses corresponding to a greater number of credits to enable a student to complete a programme, the relevant decision shall be made by the programme co-ordinator, programme director or other similar person. A copy of any decision shall be sent to the Admissions Office.
